Eckernförde, the popular holiday destination at the Baltic Sea in Schleswig Holstein is a peaceful and relaxed place in February. No comparison of how this place looks like during the summer months.
A walk through this cute tranquil town is very easy and even with kids no problem because everything is in walking distance and there is plenty to do and see. The unique maritime flair, the miles of sandy beaches and the beautiful Downtown Altstadt with its narrow and winding alleys and restored fisherman’s cottages is really worth a visit.
We started our morning walk right at the beach and inhaled the calm coastal scenery. We passed the famous red and white lighthouse at the port of Eckernförde, watched the fishermen selling their catch of the day and stopped for a little chat to learn everything about fish filleting. While strolling along the shopping mile Kieler Strasse we passed restored half-timbered houses and little farmer stands with vegetables, fruits, and flowers ( Farmer’s Market is every Wednesday ! ) and stopped for some Sweets at the Bonbonkocherei.
